Investment practices and preferences of the Malian diaspora in their country of origin

On 22 October 2022, in Saint-Germain des Près (Paris, France), the Diaspor’Act event, hosted by Mahamadou CISSE, coordinator of the Diaspora Skills Mobilization Program for Employment (PMCDE) in Mali, attached to the Ministry of National Entrepreneurship, Employment and Vocational Training, and president of the National Council of Malian Youth in France (CNJMF).

Objective of the day was to mobilize, sensitize and coordinate diaspora activities towards a proactive and inclusive engagement in the economic development of the African continent.

The event was supported by the Public Investment Bank (BPI), IFAD, the Permanent Conference of African and Francophone Consular Chambers (CPCCAF), La Maison de l’Afrique, Orange Money, TV5 Monde and RFI.

It lasted the whole day and focused on several themes, such as entrepreneurship and productive diaspora investment. Around 400 participants, including the President of the National Council for Employers in Mali, the Executive Director of BPI France, as well as diaspora entrepreneurs, attended.

IFAD moderated a panel discussion on Diaspora Productive Investment, composed of the Investment Director of Investisseurs&Partenaires – an impact investment fund with activities in Africa, the President of Ciwara Capital – an investment company of the Malian Diaspora supported by IFAD, the digital and export project manager of BPI France and the founder of Zabbaan group.

This event was a success and allowed good visibility on the role of the Malian diaspora, as well as IFAD’s work on facilitating diaspora investment solutions.
