MobileRemit Africa report

MobileRemit Africa aims to complement RemitSCOPE Africa, a web-based platform that provides users with remittance-based data and analytics. It will lay the foundation for a knowledge base on mobile remittances and to gather data, generate insights and provide policy guidance on mobile flows forAfrican countries.

The MobileRemit Africa project is a pillar of the Platform for Remittances, Investments and Migrants’ Entrepreneurship in Africa (PRIME Africa) initiative, co-financed by the European Union and implemented by the Financing Facility forRemittances (FFR) of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The project aims at providing a mobile remittance enablement index for peer comparison among countries on readiness to adopt mobile as a remittance channel.

PRIME Africa currently targets seven African countries, namely and their main remittance corridors.

MobileRemit Africa details the current market state of mobile remittances in the seven PRIME Africa target countries, i.e. Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, The Gambia and Uganda, and offers a more detailed analysis of the countries’ MobileRemit Africa index score, which shows the potential for mobile remittances going forward. It concludes with some policy recommendations on how the countries might ultimately realize this potential.

The MobileRemit Africa reports and index build upon data collection and analysis undertaken by IFAD, grouped together and disseminated through its flagship website, RemitSCOPE.
