Innovative financing and skills valuation: the role of decentralized cooperation and the diaspora

On 28 October 2022, the Coordination of the French elected representatives of Malian origin (CEFOM – Coordination des élus français d’origine malienne), jointly with IFAD and the Embassy of Mali in France, co-organized a half-day event on “Innovative financing and skills valuation: the role of decentralized cooperation and the diaspora,” hosted by the City of Paris.

The event came as a request from the Malian diaspora and the broader public, as a sign of peace and reconciliation between France and Mali in these times of tension (“by children of both countries who cannot choose between their father and their mother”).

Almost 200 people, including CEFOM members, diaspora representatives, among which the two main associations grouping the Malian diaspora, donors and technical partners took part in the debates.

The event provided an opportunity to showcase IFAD’s work on diaspora investment in Mali, along with its partners Ciwara Capital, FADEV and the Union of Ambassadors, and to present the results of the study on “Investment practices and preferences of the Malian diaspora in their country of origin,” developed jointly with ADEPT, RMDA and FEASO.
